Upcoming Game Announcement: REPEAT IT BACK TO ME

Hi, everyone!

I've been super excited today to formally announce my next game/visual novel, REPEAT IT BACK TO ME! Along with it, I've decided to get back into writing devlogs to track my progress and some thoughts on game development.

Progress/Goals Snapshot

My target for this game is for it to be slightly shorter than a single playthrough of my first game, SALTWATER. A rough draft of the script has already been completed and most of my work now will be doing illustrations. This is the first time I've dove into doing character illustrations for a game and I am excited to share more sprite work I have been doing soon.

I hope to launch the game with both a web and Windows build, similarly to what's available for my previous two games, GUARDIAN ANGEL and SALTWATER. It took me a lot longer to get the web version of GUARDIAN ANGEL working as opposed to the Windows version. This time I'm hoping to have both out at the same time.

Notes On Engines:

For my first game, SALTWATER, I used Calico, which was really great for making a text-based web-native game. For my next game, GUARDIAN ANGEL, I switched over to Gamemaker because I wanted to make something with different interactive elements, akin to a point-and-click game. For REPEAT IT BACK TO ME, my priorities for exactly what I wanted to accomplish graphically and how much programming I was willing to put into doing so changed again, so this time around I am using Yarn Pile, which has been a joy to work in so far!

I hope to sometime soon write a more in-depth blog post about some of the things I've learned from playing around with so many tools for creating narrative games, specifically targeting artists/writers without any programming experience who are interested in making games. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, don't hesitate to send me any questions you might have and I'll try to address them in the blog post!

Other Things:

In case you missed it, my first game SALTWATER was included in Indiepocalypse Issue #49! While SALTWATER is (and will always be) free to play, if you'd like to support me along with a bunch of other indie developers, go check it out! At the time of writing, they're even on sale for like, $1 a game.

On a similar note, while I've really enjoyed working on my own games over the past year, this year I want to do more to contribute to other projects. If you have a game, visual novel, comic, zine, etc. that you'd like me to an illustration for, please reach out and send me a message! I'd love to work with you :)
